Pedometer

The one piece of equipment every participant of the Step it Up Challenge needs is a pedometer. You will carry this device on your waist everyday throughout the challenge. You'll clip it on as soon as you get out of bed and take if off when you go back in. Pedometers are available at the Rec Centre for $25.50.

How to attach the pedometer
  • Attach the pedometer to your belt or the top of your pants/ skirt
  • The pedometer must be horizontal to the ground in order for it to function correctly
  • The case should be closed during use and opened only to do readings (it will not count steps if the case is open)
How to start
  • Check your pedometer: walk 50 steps to check if the pedometer counts the number of steps correctly. If there is any discrepancy between the number of steps you take and the number shown on the display adjust the sensitivity accordingly
  • Clip it on the first thing in the morning and take it off before you go to bed
  • Record your dialy reading and then reset the pedometer to zero each day
