Activity in your day
In the past it was thought that you had to be vigorously active for it to be beneficial for your health. However new research has shown that it is much easier to meet the requirements for health benefits.
New activity guidelines are:
- Be active every day in as many different ways as possible; walk, dance, cycle, garden, play with kids, housework…
- Put together at least 30 minutes on most, preferably all, days
- If possible add some vigorous exercises for extra health benefits and fitness
Tips to be more active:
- Take part in a weekly activities during the Step it Up Challenge
- Go for a walk during lunch or after work
- Park your car further away or get off the bus earlier
- Walk while you are on the phone
- Take the stairs instead of the lift
- Leave the car at home and make biking or walking a priority to get places
Instead of using the "easy" or most efficient way of doing things, choose the "harder" way more often and be creative. Turn it into fun!
