HEALTH CHECKS

Cardiovascular disease accounts for 40% of deaths annually, the leading cause of death in NZ. Book in a health check and find out how you can improve your heart health. These Health Checks will review your blood pressure, blood glucose, blood cholesterol, waist measurement, risk assessment and provide appropriate advice to help you improve your wellbeing. No fasting required.

EAR CANAL CHECKS

Want to see what the inside of your ears really look like? Do you experience irritation, pain, leaking or hearing loss? Come and check the health of your ear canals and see if your ears need more attention. Tolbecs will be able to give you an insight into your ear health and provide you with the information, advice and recommendations to help your ears.

VISION SCREENING

Almost 125,000 New Zealanders have vision loss. Most vision loss is correctable, preventable or treatable. Sight is something that should never be taken for granted. Whether you wear glasses or not, it’s good to regularly check in and see how your eyes are performing. It will help your optometrist look deeper into detecting any eye condition early, which can lead to more effective treatment. Book an appointment to have a screening of your vision with Paterson Burn Optometrists.

BreastScreen Aotearoa Seminar

BreastScreen Aotearoa is a free national breast screening programme that checks women for early breast cancer. The programme aims to reduce the number of women who die from breast cancer. This seminar will inform you about the benefits of regular screening, who should have a screening mammogram, what happens when you have a mammogram, enrolment and making appointments (it’s easy!), does it hurt? Are mammograms safe? Eligibility (age, residency status, etc.) and Breast awareness.

Cervical Screening Seminar

The National Cervical Screening Programme includes health promotion, smear taking, laboratory analysis of cervical smears, cervical biopsies and management of women with abnormal smear results. This seminar will clarify what a cervical smear test is, how the test works, who should get the test, and much more. Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable of all cancers. Come along and learn about this programme.

Cooking Demonstration

Discover some great new recipes that are quick, healthy and above all delicious. Vicki from Nourish Magazine will introduce to some "Superfoods" like quinoa and chia seeds and show you how to incorporate these into your diet. This will be an interesting and fun way to spend your lunch hour, plus you will go home inspired to try something new.

Core Strengthening

What does ‘core strengthening’ really mean and how it will benefit me? What myths surround core strengthening and what are the most beneficial exercises to do. Does a six pack mean I have a strong core? Learn how everything fits into the puzzle.

Healthy Posture workshop

Your posture has an impact on the quality of your life. In this workshop you will learn; what is good posture, how it impacts your wellbeing, a simple self-assessment along with tips and exercises to maintain good posture. In this workshop you will get to evaluate your own posture with some simple oberservations and exercises. Please wear comfortable clothes.

Flow Yoga

Beginning with gentle, rhythmical warming movements you flow into strength and balance poses, then ease into longer stretches and relaxation. Sometimes called vinyasa yoga, in this style you flow from one pose to the next with conscious, rhythmic breath. Learn how you can lengthen, strengthen and tone your muscles to release the stresses of every day.

Pilates

Pilates is the perfect way to improve your posture and develop body control. It is a great workout that uses flowing movements to help develop long lean muscles instead of bulk. Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, thereby helping to balance mind and body.

Zumba

Music is the key ingredient to Zumba classes. The easy-to-follow routines feature steady rhythms and resistance training combined to tone and sculpt the body while burning fat. The specific beats and tempo changes, transition the workout from one toning, strengthening or cardio move to another, thus targeting every major muscle group in your body. What better way to tone up while having fun!

REV CYCLING

Indoor cycling is a great way to burn fat, build and tone muscle, and increase cardiovascular endurance, while minimising stress to bones and joints. REV classes are performed on a stationary bike and last for 45 minutes. Instructors hype the class up with pumping music and set the scene with imaginary hills and finish lines.
