Blood Pressure, Glucose & Cholesterol
Have your blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol checked at the Student Health Centre. The cholesterol check provides a total breakdown of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ cholesterol.
For accurate results please refrain from eating for 4 hours prior to your appointment. Results for blood pressure and glucose are available directly after the check. Results for the cholesterol will be sent to your GP and -if results are not good- also to you via internal mail.
Costs: $20 for cholesterol (cash only, please bring exact amount). Other checks FREE.
Melanoma Check
Have your skin checked for melanoma. After sun protection the best defence against skin cancer is regular skin checks. If diagnosed early, skin cancer can be easily treated.
Costs: $15 (cash only, please bring exact amount).
Wellness Consultation
A Wellness Consultation gives you the opportunity to discuss your health and wellbeing with a Wellness Coach. This 30 minute session is based around your own personal questions, concerns and goals. After the session you will:
- Have a better understanding about your health and wellbeing
- Know if you are on the right track or what steps to take to achieve your goals
- Feel motivated to take action in the right direction
Wellness Coach is Charlie Dean. He has a Bachelor of Sport and Leisure Studies (BLS) and a Bachelor of Social Sciences (BsocSc Honours).
Posture Check
Have your posture assessed for any abnormalities and have a rehabilitation programme issued if required. Posture checks take 20 minutes and are provided by Justin Stewart, rehabilitation consultant at the Rec Centre.
Justin Stewart is a specialist exercise therapist with a BA Sport Science degree and an Honours Degree in Sport Science with a specialisation in Bio kinetics.
Shoulder Savers
How many hours a day do you spend ‘sitting’... behind your desk, in your car, watching TV etc? If you are spending much of our time on chairs and couches you may develop physical problems such as shoulder and neck issues, headaches and upper back problems.
At the hands on workshop, Shoulder Savers, you will learn how to prevent physical problems as a result of sitting. Through simple self assessments your shoulder posture will be analysed. You will learn some exercises to do at home and new habits for throughout the day to improve the health of your shoulders.
Exercise Physiologist Scott Lawrence has a BPh.Ed Exercise Prescription & Management. He has a strong background in musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
Swap your Chair for a Swiss Ball
Sitting on a chair for a long period of time can make our backs lazy and result in posture changes which are not good for our back. Swapping your chair for a Swiss Ball promotes good posture and helps to make the workplace more fun.
Book in a day of Swiss Balls for your office and you will receive two balls (different sizes) for you and your colleagues to try out. They come with tips and advise on how to use them as an office chair. Limited balls are available. A rotation schedule will be available online once Wellness Week has started.
