Heart disease claims one NZ life every 90 minutes. The time to stop the heartbreak is now. Looking after your heart health is important and easy to achieve. This seminar is about how to look after your heart.
The Heart Foundation would like your attention for the website www.knowyournumbers.co.nz. Your heart numbers are two of the most important numbers you need to know because they give an insight into how healthy your heart is and also reflect the effect that your lifestyle is having on your body.
The two numbers are your blood pressure (BP) and your cholesterol ratio (TC/HDL). If you don't know these, please book a Health Check during Wellness Focus.

Missed out on your health check in previous Wellness Focus? Book yours for October. Health Checks are held in School of Maori & Pacific Development. Health checks include: Blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, bmi and heart risk assessment.

Wellness Consultation
Do you need a kick start or inspiration to make positive changes in your wellbeing? A consultation (it's just a talk, no tests or checks) with a wellness coach can give you just that input or motivation to do so. Bring to the table whatever you like.
When: 30 minutes consultations at various times.
Location: Wellness Coach is located at the Rec Centre.
Health and well-being: What does it mean to you?
How does our view of health and well-being influences our health-related behaviours? This workshop covers all aspects of health and well-being and strategies to support better health.

The Rec Centre on our campus welcomes you! Please visit the Rec Centre on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday during Wellness Focus between 9 and 11am for a 15 minute tour. Find out what the Rec Centre has to offer. No bookings required, just turn up and a staff member will show you around.

Pilates
Pilates is a great way to improve your posture and develop body control. It is a great workout that uses flowing movements to help develop long lean muscles instead of bulk.
When: 11 and 18 Oct, 5.30-6.30pm
12 and 19 oct, 12.05-12.50pm

Yoga
Yoga is a great way to lengthen, strengthen and tone your muscles and stretch away the stresses of the day!
You could either do Ashtanga yoga or Flow yoga.

Flow Yoga: 13 and 20 oct, 5.30-6.30pm (Rec Centre)
Hearing checks
Is your TV volume getting louder? Are you having difficulty hearing in meetings or in noisy situations? Bay Audiology will check your hearing levels and then advises you on the next step to better hearing.

Food for the Mind, Body and Soul
What nutrition challenges do we face as we age? This seminar looks into how nutrition could change as we age. What to avoid and what to have more of? What simple changes would benefit our eating pattern?

Skin cancer self evaluation
Learn how to monitor your own skin before summer kicks in. This workshop is on: what is skin cancer, how it can be recognised, advice on screening and other general information with a question and answer time.

Women's wellness
Gain knowledge and understanding of your pelvic floor muscle. They help control bladder and bowel, prevent prolapse and increase sexual sensation. Join the seminar from Brenda Holloway,Women's Physiotherapist and the question and answer session that follows. Regain control today.
