Fasting and health checks

Why NO fasting?

Glucose Check

Normal blood sugar levels should be between 4 and 7.5 regardless of whether someone has just eaten or not. The body should be able to manage sugar levels between these numbers, therefore fasting for this test is not required. A random test is actually a good test for glyceamic control as it is an indicator for the body’s ability to manage sugar levels. If someone’s blood sugar is outside this range it would be of concern and further testing (with fasting) should be done.

Cholesterol Check

This check will give a TOTAL cholesterol count and indicate if something is wrong or not. If the result of this screening shows a TOTAL cholesterol within the healthy range you are fine. If the result shows a TOTAL cholesterol that’s too high it is recommended that you have further testing (with fasting). In the further test your TOTAL cholesterol won’t vary much but it will show if the high level is a result of the good or bad cholesterol.
